Efigênia Rolim is the subject of the first exhibition honoring artists from the museum's collection, presented by the Oscar Niemeyer Museum in the space located at the end of the underground tunnel. Starting September 3rd., the public will be able to visit the exhibition “Efigênia Rolim: “A Poética do Resíduo” (The Poetics of Waste), which brings together sculptures from the MON’s permanent collection, such as “Guinea e as Três Marias” (Guinea and the Three Marys), “Vai o Carrinho com Cavaleiros e Anjinhos” (Cart with Horsemen and Little Angels), and “Xamã (instrumento musical)” (Shaman (Musical Instrument), along with a video about the artist.

Efigênia Rolim’s work emerges from simple, intimate gestures and an empirical, persistent ritual of reorganizing the world using what has been discarded. 

Born in Minas Gerais, the artist and storyteller became known in Curitiba for launching her productions after moving to the capital of Paraná — a city that embraced her and integrated her into its daily life and artistic scene.

Efigênia used to tell how, upon seeing a candy wrapper on the street glistening in the sun, she was enchanted by that simple beauty, seeing infinite creative possibilities in the paper.

Over the course of decades, the artist has developed a unique language that transforms waste — paper, plastic, fragments of everyday life — into vibrant compositions in which color, rhythm, and repetition become forms of resistance and reinvention.

MON holds its first tribute exhibition, featuring artist Efigênia Rolim

The Oscar Niemeyer Museum (MON) is launching the first in a series of exhibitions and tributes dedicated to artists represented in the museum's collection. The new space, located at the end of the tunnel, will open on September 3rd with the exhibition “Efigênia Rolim: The Poetics of Waste.”

The exhibition brings together sculptures from MON’s permanent collection, such as “Guinea e as Três Marias” (Guinea and the ThreeMarias), “Vai o Carrinho com Cavaleiros e Anjinhos” and “Xamã(instrumento musical)” (Shaman musical instrument), as well as a video about the artist.

Contemporary artist Eder Santos, a pioneer of multimedia art in Brazil, is the creative force behind the Oscar Niemeyer Museum’s latest project: the solo exhibition “Daquilo que nos escapa” (That Which Escapes Us).

Internationally recognized for developing projects that blend visual arts, cinema, theater, video, and new media, the artist brings together 12 works here that outline the scope of his multifaceted output, within a space that explores the relationships between image, memory, technology, and perception.

When presented at the MON, the work takes on an even more significant dimension. Oscar Niemeyer’s architecture, renowned for the interplay of monumentality, movement, and space, establishes a unique dialogue with a body of work that also regards space as a creative medium.

The exhibition transforms Room 11 into an experience-based setting where images and sounds engage with the architecture, inviting visitors to navigate the space in a non-linear fashion. More than a mere retrospective or a gathering of artworks, the exhibition proposes an encounter between different eras and artistic languages.

Outside the museum, the video installation “Iluminado” (Enlightened)reaches out to and engages the public in the outdoor area. The work fosters an interesting dialogue between the exhibition, the “MON sem Paredes – Arte ao Ar Livre” (MON Without Walls – Open-Air Art) project, and the building’s architecture.

By bringing together technology, memory, and sensibility, Eder Santos reinforces art’s capacity to generate new perceptions of our surroundings—and of what we carry within our very essence. The MON thus invites the public to traverse this realm of transforming images.

Eder Santos's work encourages us to remove our everyday lenses that make us observe an increasingly monochromatic world. It’s only by taking them off that we can perceive what is not seen. The cold technology of video is metamorphosed by his sensitive gaze and by anutterly nonlinear image editing process that achieves dizzying levels – a sort of barravento.

If references to Brazilian cinematic production have been recurrent in the artist's production,Barravento Novo [New Barravento] is the work of a multimedia pioneer in veneration of Cinema Novo. The video installation, created in collaboration with Japanese-American artist Bruce Yonemoto based on the like-titled film by Glauber Rocha, proposes a juxtaposition that confronts the past and present of not only Brazilian history, but also of filmmakingtechnologies. In the exhibition space, the scenes shot on 35mm film by the Bahian filmmaker are superimposed on the 4K digital images by the Minas Gerais artist. The worlds of Cota and Firmino, in their key roles from the 1962 film, are impressively merged in the mesmerizing performance by the protagonist of the 2017 video installation, Camila Pitanga, who simultaneously embodies both characters – another sort of barravento.

Avoiding mimicry, Eder Santos closely follows Firmino's shout: the independence of Barravento Novo is evident in the masterful editing that accompanies the speech by Antônio Pitanga at the end of the film – a tribute to the first black lead actor in Brazilian cinema as well as to Glauber’s editing aesthetics – and resounds in the barravento that unifies the film’s soundscape. The détournement present in the video installation nonetheless preserves the aesthetics and narrative in Glauber Rocha's first feature-length film and underscores some debates and tensions inherent to the Brazilian Cinema Novo movement, which still remain relevant even in this third decade of the 21st century.

Just as the African cultural and religious heritage in Bahia goes far beyond the barravento in Glauber Rocha's work, the transatlantic thrust is also found in much of Eder Santos's artistic universe. The video-sculpture Oxalá demands from us a kairotic time to unveil landscapes evoked by the placid flight of the orisha and the intermittent dance of feathers, inviting the viewer to an immersive experience within the exhibition space, in a sort of counterpoint to the cyclical and quickened rhythm of Shango that coexists in the gallery.

There is furthermore a close bond uniting the worlds of Glauber Rocha and Eder Santos. Both, "with cameras in their hands and ideas in their heads," are extremely engaged and critical in regard to the domesticated society, whose main motto is summarized in the words "work, consume and die." Portraying the violence and precariousness of the third world and reflecting on the deeper layers between the oppressor and the oppressed, Barravento was the initial cornerstone of a movement that was to be severely censored by the military dictatorship in Brazil. Very significantly, Barravento Novo was born fifty-five years later, at a moment when democracy was once again under threat and culture was again being oppressed. While in Glauber Rocha's film, Aruan points out over the Atlantic Ocean toward Africa shouting, "We must react!" in the punk-baroque work by Eder Santos the landscapes that surround us are searched for the answer to Firmino's cry: "Our time is coming!" Demanding an aesthetic and ethical stance in regard to images, the artist reminds us that art always runs against the wind (à barravento).

More than moving between distinct languages and territories, his work seems, since the 1980s, drawn to the moment when liminal spaces become porous.

The first exhibition of the artist from Minas Gerais at the Oscar Niemeyer Museum brings together video installations and video sculptures created between 2003 and 2024 around this shifting condition. Letters, bottles, wires, aquariums and seas traverse the exhibition space, establishing a fluid geography in which the border ceases to be understood as a rigid line of separation and becomes instead a space of passage, where every trajectory carries within it the possibility of straying from its course.

In a creative process that brings him close to the Benjaminian essence of play, Eder Santos constructs a poetics of instability that rejects the transmission of unequivocal messages. Between one shore and another, between one instant and the next, between what we seek in vain to retain and what inevitably eludes us, his work inhabits an interstice that runs counter to the cyclical, accelerated cadence of contemporaneity, requiring us to remain, to wait, and to set aside for a few moments the urgency of immediate comprehension. Perhaps to look at an image is precisely to learn to let it go.

Born in Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais), Eder Santos is recognized as one of the pioneers of multimedia art in Brazil. Active since the 1980s, his career is intertwined with the emergence of video art in the country and the incorporation of audiovisual media as a central language within the visual arts. His work is included in the collections of institutions such as MoMA (New York), the Centre Pompidou (Paris), the Museum of Modern Art in São Paulo, the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro, and the Itaú Cultural Collection, among others. He has participated in national and international biennials and festivals, such as the Videobrasil Festival, the São Paulo Biennial, and the World Wide Video Festival (Amsterdam). Alongside his work in the visual arts, he has built an award-winning career in cinema, creating short films, feature films, and television series.

MON's new exhibition gallery to open with artist Juliana Stein

The Oscar Niemeyer Museum (MON) is inaugurating a new exhibition space on August 6 with the exhibition “The Back of the Page Contains the Other Side” (O verso da página contém o outro lado) by artist Juliana Stein. It is Gallery 12, located next to the tunnel entrance on the lower level.

 The exhibition is based on the artist's book of the same name and offers visitors an experience that combines reading with lived moments. Teachers, students, people aged 60 and over, and the general public will be encouraged to reflect on the idea of ​​life as a book: to move forward, one must always return to reading.

More than just an exhibition space, the new room opens as a place of possibilities, designed to embrace diverse narratives, artistic languages, and cultural experiences.

Juliana Stein was born in Passo Fundo (RS), graduated in Psychology from UFPR in 1992, and lived for two years in Florence and Venice to study art history, watercolor techniques, and drawing. Since the late 1990s, she has dedicated herself to photography, building a career with an established reputation in Brazil and abroad. She has participated in the 55th Venice Biennale and the 29th São Paulo Biennial, and has exhibited at Crone Gallery in Berlin, ShangART Gallery in Shanghai, and Carreau du Temple in Paris.

 Her works have previously been part of other exhibitions at the Museum, such as "It's not clear until night falls," (Não está claro até que a noite caia) in 2017 and “Affinities II – Them!” (Afinidades II – Elas!) in 2022.

Mano Penalva's work stems from the displacement of objects from their everyday context. Through his art, the artist highlights the idea that the exponential proliferation of objects and images is not intended to train perception or consciousness, but rather insists on merging us with them.

The exhibition title synthesizes the conciliatory relationship between the vernacular and the industrial that characterizes Mano Penalva's work. Moiré is not only an optical effect generated from the overlapping of lines demarcating a grid, but a phenomenon very present in constructivist art in Brazil, particularly from the 1950s onwards. Artists such as Hélio Oiticicaand Lygia Pape pointed out its orthogonal structure while simultaneously deconstructing it, respectively, in series of works such as "Metaesquemas" (c. 1958) and "Ttéia" (1977–2002).  Drawing a parallel with the present, Penalva also performs a similar operation, for example, with the "Clouds," where the grid becomes an expansive and malleable three-dimensional plane. Meanwhile, bereguedê signals the place of improvisation, spontaneity, and, significantly, collectivity and celebration.

The exhibition is based on the confluence of these two spaces that condense, on the one hand, the geometric investigations of avant-garde art and its relationship with transparency and chromatic vibration, and, on the other hand, the experience of the street, not only using everyday materials such as slats, tarpaulins, straw, the nylon of beach chairs or bags, but also the intensity and noise of the city, local cultures, affective memory and, especially, the "gambiarra" (Jerry-rigged) or the approximation between the use value and the aesthetic value of an ordinary object through improvisation. The artist is interested in the mixing of cultures, such as the proximity between the muxarabi (mashrabiya) and its architecture, which does not impede an eye that pierces the material, and the magical and accidental language of the streets.

Still within the architectural context, Penalva develops both the archetype of a square and that of a house. The arrangement of the works throughout the space, creating translucent corridors or rooms with the "Alpendres”(Porches) and "Cortinas” (Curtains), as well as intervals for leisure through the "Camas de Gato” (Cat's Cradles), allows the public to move through the exhibition as if experiencing a continuous act of slowing down time and the subjective modes of constituting affection.

MON presents an exhibition of the artist Mano Penalva

The exhibition “Moiré Bereguedê – Mano Penalva”, a new project of the Oscar Niemeyer Museum, will open on June 25th at 7 pm in Room 2. It features 71 works, including sculptures, paintings, collages, and videos, from his recent production. The curator is Felipe Scovino.

“The word ‘beregedê’ already indicates a place of improvisation, spontaneity, and, significantly, of collectivity and celebration,” says Scovino.

Mano Penalva was born in Salvador in 1987 and lives and works in São Paulo. His work stems from the displacement of objects from their everyday context and reflects the artist's interest in Anthropology and Material Culture. Through different media, such as sculpture, installation, painting, photography, and video, Penalva proposes new aesthetic groupings based on retail sales strategies, his experiences collecting stories, and observation of the field that moves between the home and the street. 

Penalva highlights with his works the idea that the exponential proliferation of objects and images is not intended to train perception or consciousness, but rather insists on merging us with them. 

He holds a bachelor's degree in Social Communication from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (2008). He attended free art courses at Parque Lage for seven years (2005–2011). Currently, he is part of Massapê Projetos, a platform managed by artists that enables artistic thought and production, based in São Paulo, and of which he is the creator.

In recent years, she has participated in several artistic residencies: Casa Wabi – Puerto Escondido (Mexico), 2021; Fountainhead Residency – Miami (USA), 2020; LE26by / Felix Frachon Gallery – Brussels (Belgium), 2019; AnnexB – New York (USA), 2018; Penthouse Art Residence – Brussels (Belgium), 2018; R.A.T. – Artistic Exchange Residency – Mexico City (Mexico), 2017; Pop Center – CamelódromoPorto Alegre (Brazil), 2017.

Importantes artistas de diversos países e continentes compartilham suas formas de ver o mundo contemporâneo em instigantes mostras que acontecem simultaneamente. Um dos destaques é a artista japonesa Chiharu Shiota, que tão bem aborda os espaços entre presença e ausência, memória e imaginação, corpo e arquitetura. 

Para o icônico Olho do MON ela propõe um conjunto de instalações inéditas concebidas especialmente para o local, transformando-o em uma experiência imersiva. Milhares de autorretratos enviados pelo público por cartas, ao serem pendurados, formam uma rede física, na qual os visitantes se deparam com tal paradoxo.

Sua poderosa obra, assim como de outros artistas asiáticos que participam da Bienal, também fazem um diálogo com a coleção daquele continente que pertence ao MON. Se o acervo é a alma do museu, o maior desafio de uma instituição é mantê-lo vivo, atuante, em permanente troca com o público. Entendemos que parte das obras apresentadas pela Bienal, que retrata diversas culturas do continente asiático, encontra eco em nossaimensa e significativa coleção de arte asiática.  

O visitante perceberá que existe um objetivo comum entre MON e Bienal: o de extrapolar paredes e fronteiras, sejam elas de espaço, tempo ou materialidade. Desta forma, temos aqui uma oportunidade única.

Mais uma vez, o MON se torna a principal sede da Bienal de Curitiba 

Com três décadas de história, a Bienal Internacional de Curitiba abre ao público, no dia 14 de junho, a sua 16ª edição no Museu Oscar Niemeyer e em diversos espaços culturais da cidade, reunindo mais de 300 artistas, de 38 países, dos cinco continentes em uma ampla programação de exposições, instalações, performances e ações urbanas. Com o tema “LIMIARES”, sob curadoria de Adriana Almada e Tereza de Arruda, a Bienal propõe reflexões sobre as transformações do mundo contemporâneo e os limites cada vez mais fluidos entre o humano e o tecnológico, o natural e o artificial, o físico e o digital. 

“Mais do que um conceito, LIMIARES é uma atitude curatorial: habitar a fronteira, permanecer no entre, criar a partir da incerteza, gerando novos caminhos”, afirmam as curadoras Adriana Almada e Tereza de Arruda.

Reconhecida como uma das principais plataformas de arte contemporânea da América Latina, a Bienal reafirma nesta edição seu papel como espaço de intercâmbio internacional, experimentação estética e reflexão crítica sobre o presente. A programação segue até 15 de novembro de 2026 e reúne artistas, pesquisadores, cientistas e estudantes em projetos que articulam pintura, instalação, performance, inteligência artificial, videoarte, fotografia, arte sonora e experiências em realidade aumentada.

O principal núcleo expositivo da Bienal acontece no Museu Oscar Niemeyer (MON), parceiro histórico da mostra e espaço indissociável de sua trajetória. A Bienal ocupará o Olho, a Torre, a Rampa, cinco salas expositivas e entressalas, aprofundando uma relação construída ao longo de mais de duas décadas e marcada por exposições emblemáticas da arte contemporânea internacional

Ao longo de sua história, o MON recebeu momentos marcantes da Bienal, como a performance de Marina Abramović em 2009; a grande mostra de arte cinética de Julio Le Parc no Olho, em 2015; a exposição coletiva de artistas chineses em 2017; e a apresentação da icônica escultura “Spider”, da franco-americana Louise Bourgeois, em 2019.

O grande destaque desta edição será a exposição “Poéticas da Memória e da Matéria”, com curadoria de Tereza de Arruda e protagonizada por Chiharu Shiota, um dos nomes mais relevantes da arte contemporânea mundial. Reconhecida por suas instalações imersivas construídas a partir de fios, objetos cotidianos e arquiteturas emocionais, a artista ocupará o Olho e os espaços Araucária 1 e Araucária 2 do MON com quatro obras inéditas e site-specific concebidas especialmente para Curitiba. A instalação principal utilizará cerca de 300 quilômetros de fios - distância equivalente ao trajeto entre Curitiba e Florianópolis - tornando-se a maior instalação site-specific da artista já realizada na América do Sul. 

Sua poderosa obra, assim como de outros artistas asiáticos que participam da Bienal, também fazem um diálogo com a coleção daquele continente que pertence ao MON.

A Bienal realizou uma chamada pública internacional para integrar cartas, desenhos e relatos pessoais enviados pelo público à obra de Shiota, ação que já mobilizou centenas de participantes. Em diálogo com a poética da artista japonesa radicada em Berlim, a Torre do MON reunirá obras de artistas brasileiros como Iêda Jardim, André Azevedo, Evandro Soares, James Kudo, Luiz Mauro e Marina Camargo.

Destaca-se também em LIMIARES o renomado artista espanhol Max Esteban, cuja produção artística se debruça na crítica da condição humana frente à tecnologia por meio da fotografia e da videoarte. Outro artista contemporâneo que se revelará ao público no MON é o chinês Xia Hang, reconhecido por suas esculturas mecânicas interativas feitas de aço inoxidável polido, que misturam a estética cyberpunk com o conceito lúdico de "brinquedos para adultos". 

O texto curatorial da 16ªBienal é assinado por Adriana Almada e Tereza de Arruda. A edição está estruturada a partir de diferentes eixos curatoriais, desenvolvidos por uma equipe internacional de curadores convidados que articulam núcleos expositivos próprios, muitas vezes conectados entre si por aproximações conceituais, territoriais e tecnológicas.

Crítica de arte, escritora e editora argentina radicada no Paraguai, Adriana Almada é reconhecida por sua forte atuação na investigação da arte contemporânea latino-americana. Ex-vice-presidente da Associação Internacional de Críticos de Arte (AICA), em Paris, foi condecorada pelo Governo da França com a Ordem das Artes e Letras. Dividindo a direção curatorial da Bienal, a historiadora da arte brasileira Tereza de Arruda traz a experiência de quem transita entre São Paulo e Berlim desde 1989, com projetos consolidados na Europa, Ásia e Américas e atuação junto à Bienal de Havana.

Entre os curadores convidados está o hispano-argentino Ferran Barenblit, conhecido internacionalmente por discutir o papel político e social das instituições culturais. Ex-diretor do MACBA, em Barcelona, Barenblitdivide com Adriana Almada a curadoria da exposição “Cartografia Provisória”, do artista espanhol Max Esteban, no MON. 

A conexão com a produção asiática contemporânea se estabelece com as curadoras chinesas Xiao Ge e Windy Lv, que trazem à Bienal um olhar marcado pelo rigor histórico e conceitual. No MON, propõem reflexões sobre meio ambiente, temporalidade e as transformações da experiência contemporânea a partir do diálogo entre arte, tecnologia e cultura visual do leste asiático.

Com passagem pela Bienal del Fin del Mundo (Argentina) e reconhecido por descobrir e impulsionar novos talentos das gerações emergentes, o italiano Massimo Scaringella assina a curadoria do eixo “Rifrações” ao lado de Antonella Pisilli. A mostra de videoarte reúne artistas mulheres da Guiana Francesa, África e Albânia.

Já o norte-americano Royce W. Smith, atual reitor do College of the Artsda California State University, Long Beach, assina o eixo “Camuflagens”, investigação coletiva sobre percepção, tecnologia, ocultamento e construção da realidade contemporânea.

Além do MON, a programação ocupa mais de dez instituições culturais em Curitiba. Entre elas o Museu Paranaense (MUPA), o Museu da Imagem e do Som do Paraná (MIS-PR), o Museu Alfredo Andersen, o Museu da Fotografia, o Museu da Gravura – Memorial de Curitiba, o Museu de Arte Indígena e o Museu Municipal de Arte (MuMA).

Essa presença urbana, antecipada pela Curitiba Art Week e pelo Circuito Universitário da Bienal de Curitiba (CUBIC5), também se manifesta no sistema de transporte público de Curitiba, referência internacional em mobilidade urbana. A Bienal promoverá ativações em 22 terminais de ônibus, 300 paradas urbanas e mais de 1.000 ônibus da cidade. Durante toda a programação, até 15 de novembro, obras de videoarte com curadoria de Flavio de Carvalho serão exibidas nas TVs do sistema integrado, enquanto ações em realidade aumentada ocuparão terminais e estações-tubo. Essa programação começa no dia 16 de julho.

Ao realizar uma nova edição do “MON sem Paredes – Arte ao Ar Livre” o Museu Oscar Niemeyer cada vez mais utiliza a sua área externa como uma grande área de convivência voltada à arte – um presente à população.

Em consonância com o movimento da cidade de oferecer mais atrativos na região central, transformamos o entorno do Museu num amplo espaço cultural. Dessa forma, alcançamos cada vez mais pessoas, sejam moradores ou visitantes, fazendo com que a região respire arte.

Democrático e inclusivo, o projeto – inaugurado em 2024 – rompeu o limite físico das paredes do Museu e abraçou a população. A iniciativa se transformou num convite permanente para que o público externo se inspire e sinta-se instigado a entrar no MON.

Na mais recente edição, quatro grandiosas obras foram entregues à população. São elas: a escultura "Aurum", da artista Rizza Bomfim; as "Bancas Galerias", das artistas Mavi Morais, Maria Lynch, Atransälien e Yohana Oizumi; a escultura de Avaf (Assume Vivid Astro Focus), e o "Robô Interativo" dos arquitetos Dilva e Orlando Busarello, que resgata a memória afetiva de uma Curitiba de décadas atrás, quando a obra teve longa permanência no Centro da cidade, na Praça Osório.

Elas se juntam ao conjunto de obras anteriores, que ocupa a área externa do MON e que conta com trabalhos de artistas como Gustavo Utrabo, Artur Lescher, Rômmulo Conceição, Alexandre Vogler, Narcélio Grud e Joana Vasconcelos.

Entendemos que a arte no espaço público proporciona uma variedade de atividades interativas que nem sempre uma exposição museológica possibilita. Ao criar uma área urbana voltada à cultura, o “MON sem Paredes – Arte ao Ar Livre” permite muitas outras formas de expressão da criatividade artística.

O “Semeador” propõe uma reflexão sobre a vida e a passagem do tempo, através de um percurso elevado no solo que conecta o MON ao jardim. Construído a partir da repetição modular do piso projetado por Oscar Niemeyer, o trabalho busca borrar os limites entre o construído e o natural, ao misturar sementes típicas do Paraná com o cimento.

O caminho leva o visitante à obra “Ao Redor de uma Árvore”, criação que se materializa como um gesto de cuidado. Com uma estrutura metálica envolve o caule e aproxima o visitante  da copa em um aceno de respeito. A sustentação no chão é feita por quatro pilares finos, em referência a uma fala do filósofo Ailton Krenak, que diz: pisar suavemente sobre a terra é o que se busca.

A “Maca de Guarda” convida o visitante a se deitar sobre a superfície inclinada a 40°, com o corpo voltado para o céu. A proposta dialoga com a prática lúdica de criar imagens de anjo na neve, ao abrir braços e pernas, referência que complementa o título da obra.

O termo Maleme, do vocabulário afro-brasileiro, significa súplica, misericórdia ou ajuda, dirigida aos orixás, especialmente ao orixá Xangô. A posição do corpo, com o plexo e as pernas abertos e voltados ao alto, sugere uma orientação ecumênica e divina.

NARCÉLIO GRUD
Escultura em fibra de vidro com pintura em PU e arcos em aço inox

A obra propõe ser uma escultura e mobiliário de escalada, similar aos equipamentos de lazer encontrados em áreas de recreação infantil e parques públicos. Com uma composição circular em que o raio, o diâmetro e o centro se expandem de um globo para aros entrelaçados, formando uma espécie de cosmos das rotas órbitas planetárias, convida o visitante a perceber a arte por meio de novas aproximações do público com a escultura.

- Crianças abaixo de 8 anos devem ser supervisionadas por um adulto.

- Não é permitida a utilização por pessoas com mais de 14 anos.

JOANA VASCONCELOS 
Ferro forjado, plantas de jasmim

A escultura “Té Danzante (PA)” produzida em ferro forjado, no formato de um bule de chá, cria conexões entre o natural e o industrial. Nas grades de ferro que dão forma ao bule apresenta padrões característicos das cercas e balaustradas que podem ser observadas em diferentes paisagens urbanas e rurais. A obra assume a forma de uma escultura-árvore que dialoga com o princípio de complementaridade e simbiose entre o natural e o industrial.

Obra desenvolvida pelo projeto “O Pequeno Colecionador”

A obra “Estruturas Dissipativas” é composta por duas estruturas metálicas a partir de um eixo perpendicular em uma plataforma central, uma chapa de vidro com altura de 3,5 metros atravessa a plataforma e estabelece um plano falso de simetria. Produzida em ferro e concreto montada de forma a dar acesso ao público, que poderá utilizá-lo a partir de suas próprias referências e experimentações.

- Crianças abaixo de 8 anos devem estar acompanhadas de um adulto.

- Número máximo de pessoas: 2 adultos ou 3 crianças na parte aérea.

O “Giroscópico” convida o visitante a girar sobre o próprio eixo, movimentando o entorno em uma experiência ao mesmo tempo lúdica e meditativa. A obra pode ser compreendida como um recipiente para o corpo, uma espécie de “metacasa” a partir da qual se observa o mundo. O movimento circular evoca a dança e rituais espirituais associados a outros estados mentais, além de remeter às memórias da infância.

- Número máximo de pessoas: 2 adultos ou 3 crianças por vez.

Esculturas sonoras em fibra de vidro com pintura PU 

As obras da série “Sempre em Pé” combinam diferentes conceitos, a partir do brinquedo João Teimoso/Sempre em Pé. Com interações que criam movimento e experiências sonoras, ressignifica o objeto e amplia suas possibilidades de uso, criando um ambiente onde a descoberta e o brincar andam juntos.

- Cuidado ao manusear as obras, evitando atingir pessoas ao redor.

Aço carbono, aço inox, concreto e pintura policromada – esmalte sintético sobre epóxi

O “Robô Interativo” foi idealizado pelos arquitetos Dilva e Orlando Busarello. O escorregador/robô resgata o imaginário e memória afetiva do público, em uma releitura do icônico brinquedo que esteve por décadas na Praça Osório, no centro de Curitiba. Originalmente concebido em 1971, a pedido do então prefeito Jaime Lerner, o projeto tinha como objetivo oferecer uma área de lazer e convivência para crianças e famílias na região central da cidade.

Robô Interativo – Memória e Resgate Afetivo – 1971 – 2025, 2025

A escultura “Aurum”, da artista mineira Rizza Bomfim, apresenta curvas reflexivas que convidam o público a circular, atravessar e interagir. A artista trabalha com interferências no ambiente, pensando suas obras como joias urbanas, que não adornam somente o corpo, mas também o espaço.

Próximo ao Giroscópico, a obra “Afenufu vivalulu amulufu fufulufu” é uma escultura autoportante com escorregador, balanço e outros elementos para interação das crianças.

- Número máximo de pessoas: 6 crianças por vez.

- Uso destinado a crianças de 3 a 12 anos acompanhadas de um adulto.

- Não é autorizado pular, correr ou saltar da escultura.

Com a proposta de reconstruir um saber histórico entre imagem e observador, o letreiro em neon, “Plas Ayiti”, ilumina a noite e se destaca na paisagem urbana, momento em que, simbolicamente, as diferenças parecem se apagar. A obra aborda as relações entre corpo e lugar, entre habitar e existir em paisagens em constante fluxo. A instalação foi realizada inicialmente para a Praça Tiradentes em Curitiba, fixada no topo do edifício Nossa Senhora da Luz, o projeto neon contextualiza a presença dos imigrantes haitianos em Curitiba, que de 2012 a 2014, definiram a praça como um ponto de encontro e a ela deram o nome em seu idioma.

A instalação “Passagem”, do artista argentino radicado no Brasil, Alfi Vivern, evoca um trecho do seu conterrâneo, o escritor Jorge Luis Borges, ao dizer que “não sabemos nada, mas podemos imaginar que há uma aventura além da morte.”

Com cerca de 5,2 metros de altura, a obra do artista Sergius Erdelyi chama a atenção pelo tamanho. É construída cuidadosamente em madeira, a partir da Araucaria angustifolia. Você já viu uma cadeira em proporções tão diferentes? 

A “Cadeira do Mestre” (sem data) está localizada no gramado, ao lado do acesso ao estacionamento dos fundos. A escultura instiga a imaginação a criar novas narrativas para esse item do cotidiano. 

Sergius Erdelyi (1919-2015) nasceu na cidade de Novi Sad, hoje Sérvia. Foi inventor, empresário, ecologista, filantropo e artista. Seus trabalhos artísticos envolvem esculturas, pinturas, tapeçarias e vitrais.

O que é esta “árvore industrial”? A obra “Palmeira” (2007) integra a série “In Natura”, composta por 37 esculturas em forma de árvores, criadas pela artista a partir de chapas de metal cortadas a laser. O conjunto esteve exposto em 2007 no MON. Nessa série, Elizabeth Titton une arte e indústria, garantindo precisão, qualidade e novas possibilidades para a escultura.

Com obras em bronze, vidro e aço enferrujado e policromado, cada escultura alia a arte à indústria, com o objetivo de criar um contraponto entre o processo industrial e a intenção de obra de arte. A criação resulta em uma peça durável e que reflete a preocupação da artista com o acesso público à arte.

As obras evocam as memórias afetivas da artista e marcam o desenvolvimento de suas experiências com a escultura desde a década de 1970. 

Elizabeth Titton nasceu em São Paulo (SP), em 1949, e mudou-se para Curitiba em 1957. É graduada em Administração de Empresas pela Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR), formada em Pintura pela Escola de Música e Belas Artes do Paraná, em 1982, onde também foi professora de 1990 a 2006. É Mestre em Educação pela UFPR (2000).

“Não Pare de Olhar” faz parte da série “Não Pare Sobre os Olhos”, realizada pela artista Eliane Prolik entre 2003 e 2004. Apropriando-se de placas de sinalização urbana, a artista estimula a reflexão sobre diversos temas pertinentes à civilização, como liberdade, condicionamento, automatismo, alienação, informação e comunicação. “Não Pare de Olhar”, em específico, é um convite para que se leia, mas que ao fazê-lo “não pare sobre os olhos”, ou seja, perceba o que está além do visível.

Eliane Prolik, nascida em Curitiba, em 1960, é graduada em Pintura, com especialização em História da Arte do século XX, pela Escola de Música e Belas Artes do Paraná (EMBAP).

A escultura “Pássaro Rocca” (2004), do artista pernambucano Francisco Brennand, é inspirada pelos contos “Simbá, o Marujo” e “Abd al-Rahman, a História do Rocca do Magrebe”, da coleção “As Mil e Uma Noites”.

O animal, que na escultura tem forma sinuosa que se prolonga dos ninhos, é apresentado nas narrativas como um ser gigante, capaz de levantar um elefante, que protege a sua região de invasores. O explorador veneziano Marco Polo também mencionou a ave em seus escritos e acredita-se que o, agora extinto, Aepyornis (ave-elefante) serviu de referência para essa espécie mitológica.

Além do Museu, outras versões da peça de cerâmica vitrificada podem ser encontradas na Oficina Francisco Brennand, em estações de metrô em São Paulo e em prédios do Recife.

Francisco Brennand (1927-2019) nasceu em Recife (PE) e iniciou sua formação artística em 1942, ao receber de Abelardo da Hora (1924-2014) aulas de modelagem. Em 1971, Brennand começou a restaurar uma velha olaria de propriedade paterna, próxima a Recife, transformando-a em atelier e local permanente de exposição, a Oficina Francisco Brennand.

A escultura do artista pernambucano Francisco Brennand é um dos destaques no espelho d'água do MON. Produzida com cerâmica vitrificada e com cerca de 4 metros de comprimento e 2 metros de altura, a obra já foi exposta no gramado, no espelho d’água e na área interna e faz parte do acervo do Museu. 

Francisco Brennand (1927–2019) começou na pintura, mas foi por influência paterna que ele conheceu a cerâmica. O processo criativo da cerâmica é minucioso, sendo a queima uma das etapas cruciais para a forma das esculturas, em uma relação íntima de criação. Suas peças, como a “Serpente”, assumem espécies de “guardas" de sua “cidadelas”, marcando presença tanto no MON quanto na Oficina Francisco Brennand, no Recife, e outros lugares pelo Brasil.

A instalação do artista cearense Eduardo Frota reúne sete peças de 2,84 metros de altura. Além de provocar a curiosidade, as obras convidam o visitante a experimentar os sentidos, entre os vazios e o ritmo cíclico. As estruturas são compostas por anéis de compensado de madeira, unidos por cola e pinos.

Os “Cones” revelam contrastes de tamanho e formas, são construídos com anéis de compensado de madeira, unidos por cola e pinos. De longe, parecem leves e pequenos, porém, ao se aproximar é possível perceber a monumentalidade nos detalhes. 

Eduardo Frota nasceu em Fortaleza (CE), em 1959. Mudou-se para o Rio de Janeiro em 1978; nessa cidade iniciou seus estudos de arte frequentando a Escolinha de Arte do Brasil e a Oficina do Corpo de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage. Em 1986 licenciou-se em Educação Artística pelas Faculdades Integradas Bennet. Dedica-se à escultura em grande escala, como cones e carretéis realizados com madeira. Vive e trabalha em Fortaleza.

“Interferência Ecológica” faz parte de uma série de esculturas iniciada pelo artista Elvo Benito Damo na década de 1970 que tinham como suporte a madeira, o ferro e o cimento. Essas esculturas representavam uma crítica contra o desmatamento e a destruição da natureza.

Desde sua invenção, há mais de cinco mil anos, a roda simboliza o progresso Nesta obra, no entanto, simboliza, o embate entre a madeira e o metal, as consequências desse progresso. 

A escultura foi realizada em 1985, a convite do arquiteto paulistano Roberto Luiz Gandolfi, para compor a fachada do Edifício Citibank (1984), permanecendo no local até 2019.

Elvo Benito Damo nasceu em Caçador (SC), em 1948. Após se mudar para Curitiba em 1971, formou-se em Pintura e Licenciatura em Desenho pela Escola de Música e Belas Artes do Paraná e foi aluno de Francisco Stockinger (1919-2009). Está à frente do Atelier Livre de Escultura da Fundação Cultural de Curitiba desde 1976. Suas obras também podem ser vistas em espaços públicos de Curitiba (PR) como as esculturas do Cacique Tindiquera, no Parque Tingui e em frente à Catedral de Curitiba, e o Monumento ao Centenário da Imigração Italiana, em Santa Felicidade

Uma nova edição do “MON sem Paredes – Arte ao Ar Livre” acaba de ser entregue ao público. Desta vez, a área externa do Museu Oscar Niemeyer passa a abrigar mais quatro grandiosas obras: a escultura Aurum, da artista Rizza Bomfim; as Bancas Galerias, das artistas Mavi Morais, Maria Lynch, Atransälien e Yohana Oizumi; a escultura de Avaf (Assume Vivid Astro Focus), e o Robô Interativo dos arquitetos Dilva e Orlando Busarello. A curadoria é de Marc Pottier.

Mais do que nunca, a arte no espaço público se destaca como uma das melhores maneiras de levar arte ao público. Convidar artistas para criar obras, instalações ou esculturas utilizando os espaços dos jardins, parques e praças também permite uma variedade de atividades interativas que nem sempre uma exposição museológica permite.

O MON sempre buscou para ampliar seu público e oferecer muitas propostas que possam fazer com que os curitibanos e paranaenses se apropriem do “seu” Museu. Por isso foi criado o importante projeto “MON sem Paredes – Arte ao Ar Livre”.

Desde a criação do projeto, o Museu Oscar Niemeyer já aproximou o visitante de artistas como Gustavo Utrabo, Mariana Palma, Artur Lescher, Rômmulo Conceição, Alexandre Vogler, Narcélio Grud, Joana Vasconcelos, Rizza Bomfim, Mavi Morais, Maria Lynch, Atransälien, Yohana Oizumi, Avaf, Dilva e Orlando Busarello.
